Simultaneous determination of stable chlorine and bromine isotopic ratios for bromochlorinated trihalomethanes using GC-qMS

Bromochlorinated compounds are organic contaminants originating from different natural and anthropic sources increasingly found in environmental compartments. This work presents an online approach for compound specific stable isotope analysis of chlorine bromine ratios bromochlorinated trihalomethanes using gas chromatography coupled to quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-qMS). An evaluation scheme was developed simultaneously determine based on the spectral data two target compounds: dibromochloromethane dichlorobromomethane. The analytical technique optimized by assessing impact instrumental parameters, including dwell time, split ratios, ionization energy. Successively, static headspace samples containing at aqueous concentrations ranging 0.1 mg/L 5 were analyzed order test precision reproducibility proposed approach. results showed a good under conditions, with relative standard deviations between 0.05% 0.5% analysis. Finally, method tested source identification problem which simultaneous determination allowed clear distinction three manufacturers.
